Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash today reviewed the progress of PM Gati Shakti. During the meeting, the Minister appreciated the adoption of a “whole of the government approach” under PM Gati Shakti and emphasized the need for integrated planning and synchronised implementation for holistic development of the nation.
Since its launch in October 2021, the Network Planning Group, under the PM Gati Shakti institutional structure, has held 41 meetings in the last year and examined 61 projects.
These were pertaining to roads, railways, industrial corridors, natural gas, ports and urban infrastructure. Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a statement said that different Ministries are now adopting PM Gati Shakti National Mater Plan in innovative ways. Ministries of Railways and Road Transport and Highways are now developing projects of road connectivity to over 2000 goods sheds.
Similarly, 156 critical infrastructure gaps serving sectors such as coal, steel, fertilizer, ports and food and public distribution were also identified. For rollout of a cutting-edge 5G network, Department of Telecom and State Governments are using it to identify suitable street furniture for installation of 5G cells.
